Evelyn Waugh

In Mad World: Evelyn Waugh and the Secrets of Brideshead, Paula told the story of a man falling in love with a family and in so doing revealed a much warmer, kinder Waugh than he is often perceived to have been. The Chicago Tribune said that it was “An utterly captivating and generous book with all the intensity of a diary and the scholarly soundness of a fine biography,” while the Sunday Times, where it was a Top Ten Bestseller, wrote of its “turbo-driven narrative power … vibrant, absorbing, stranger than fiction.” Paula also wrote the Introduction to the Penguin Classics edition of Brideshead Revisited and is currently working on a project for the Evelyn Waugh estate.
